The Photo Theory: “We don’t take photos to remember how things looked, we take them to remember how they felt…They are proof of the life we lived and memories we can’t return to.”
This moment, this northern lights show, on November 12, 2025 truly left me awestruck. And grateful. For where I live. The place I get to call home. The ability to walk out my door and witness the magnificence of nature. The safety and security I have here. It also inspired this poem. 💚
Awestruck
In a world that can feel overwhelming and heavy,
may you be awestruck…
by nature, with the magic of a sunset, a moonrise or a sky full of stars.
by kindness, compassion and support, in neighbourhoods and communities.
by peacewalks, and resistance songs; people rising together for change.
by the resolve, of those who keep showing up with heart, authenticity and love.
by yourself, as you become confident in shining your light, your way.
by simple moments, often taken for granted when peace and safety ground us.
Inspired by a phenomenal display of the Northern Lights and “captivated” as writing prompt from Beth Kempton’s #tinyautumn poem challenge.
On November 11—12, 2025 the night skies were lit up with dancing aurora, seen as far south as Florida, thanks to a massive G4 Geomagnetic Solar Storm. The sky was so bright, the reds so vivid, even to the naked eye. Light pollution within city limits could not dim the colourful show.
If the horizon wasn’t visible from where you were, all you had to do was look up. Pure magic! This photo is an edited version of one such view from our prairie farm.

Captivated
For a moment, the world forgot… its fear, its hatred, its division.
Messages flew with excitement, “Get outside! Look up! It’s unreal…”
For a moment, everyone paused, captivated by the magic in the sky.
“You might think this is just a blank card, but to me, it’s a piece of art that you are sharing. Sandi has the ability to capture emotion with her unique perspective and frame of reference which inspires joy and happiness when you look at her cards.”
“I love giving a beautiful card with my own inspiring message on the inside. These are perfect for sending out to those you love for all special occasions.”
“Lovely, unique, high quality cards showcasing the beauty of the local landscape. A wonderful way to brighten some’s day, or to frame and keep.”

Whether on quiet country walks, in our farmyard or on a favourite trail, my camera is always close at hand. Documenting and sharing moments in time from our family farm in rural Manitoba is an integral part of my daily life. More images can be found on Instagram @sandiknight.

Northern Lights
On November 11th & 12th, 2025 a massive G4 Geomagnetic Solar Storm (scale is G0 to G5) created a phenomenal display of the Northern Lights. The sky was so bright, the reds so vivid, even to the naked eye. Light pollution within city limits could not dim the colourful dance. If the horizon wasn’t visible from where you were, all you had to do was look up. Pure magic! These are edited shots taken from our farm during those memorable evenings. My first attempt at capturing the aurora! 💚

Birds and Butterflies
From endangered species like the Red-headed woodpecker to the common American Robin, our farmyard is visited by over 80 species of birds yearly. With milkweed abundant on our rural roadsides, monarch butterflies also find our area a welcoming habit which is enhanced by flowering native trees and a diversity of flowers in my garden. These are some of my favourite captures to date.
